George Mason University's role in the AIM mission
is to help define and accomplish the science and measurement objectives
of the project, in particular those related to understanding the water
budget in the polar mesosphere. This involves utilizing chemical/dynamical
models along with relevant observations to quantify the relative contribution
of gas phase chemistry, surface chemistry, and sublimation/condensation
to the water budget in the vicinity of Polar Mesospheric Clouds (PMCs).
Understanding the water budget in the polar mesosphere is a prerequisite
for understanding how PMCs form and evolve, and also for understanding
how they respond to changing global atmospheric conditions.
